- Obesity and being overweight are being described as shocking by the Aussies. Their experts are calling it an epidemic. Why? Because it has caused 644,843 Australians to suffer cardiovascular disease,242,000 to have Type 2 diabetes and 422,274 to be afflicted with osteoarthritis.
- More than 3.71 million or 17.5% of Australians are obese; 1 in 6 Australians.This includes 290,000 children. The innocent victims of junk food,fast food,sweet fizzy drinks and chocolate milk shakes?
- In addition to the damage to health,obesity and being overweight affects the economy. In terms of loss of healthy life, it costs the Aussies A$50 billion with cost to the economy being A$8 billion.
On an individual level, weight loss efforts need to be reviewed. Where weight loss attempts are being made, are such efforts bringing in the desired weight loss results? If this is not happening,we need to be asking critical questions. Are we doing it right? Are we using the right approach to weight loss? Is the weight loss program suited to our circumstances and profile? Have we understood the vital factors that determine weight loss?
